When outside temperatures of 35 °C and above become the norm, glass façades open up spectacular views and the highest demands are placed on comfort and energy efficiency, the quality of a building concept is reflected in the details of the technical system solution. The ClimaLevel Multiboden has been developed precisely for these requirements: as an integral floor system for heating, cooling and ventilation – invisibly integrated into the architecture. While we have been using ClimaLevel Multiboden in Germany primarily in high-quality office and administrative buildings for many years, projects in warm climate zones are becoming increasingly important. The system shows its particular strengths in villa construction, exclusive residential complexes, hotels and prestigious buildings in the Mediterranean region.
Four functions – one integrated system
The ClimaLevel multi-level floor combines four technically coordinated functions in one level:
– Surface heating
– Surface cooling
– Thermal activation of the screed
– Controlled air supply in the façade area
In heating mode, the system works as a classic low-temperature panel heating system with a large, even heat output. The low system temperatures make it ideal for combining with heat pumps and renewable energy sources. Comfort is created by a high proportion of radiation and a very homogeneous temperature distribution in the room – without convection and without draughts.
In cooling mode, the ClimaLevel Multiboden uses the storage mass of the screed specifically for thermal activation. The cooling energy is introduced into the construction over a large area. The supply air flows underneath the screed through hollow floor zones and is thermally treated there before flowing into the room in front of the windows. In contrast to conventional air conditioning systems with very low supply air temperatures, this creates a calm, draught-free room climate.
Thermal activation as a comfort and efficiency factor
Thermal activation of the screed really comes into its own in warm climates with high solar loads via large glazed areas. The storage mass of the floor acts as an energy buffer: heat loads absorbed during the day are dissipated with a time delay. In conjunction with an intelligent control strategy, the system can also regenerate during the cooler night hours, resulting in a significant reduction in peak loads and thus optimized dimensioning of central cooling generation. For property developers, this means lower investment costs for the system technology and reduced operating costs in the long term.
Supply air intake in the floor – thermal shield in front of the façade
A key distinguishing feature of the Clima-Level system is the introduction of conditioned supply air via specially developed air outlets, which ensure effective turbulent mixed ventilation – specifically in front of façades and window surfaces. High-quality villas by the sea or buildings with large glass surfaces in particular generate high solar loads. The supply air intake close to the ground creates a thermal shield along the façade. Warm downdraughts in winter and overheating effects in summer are significantly reduced.
In cooling mode, dehumidification of the supply air is absolutely essential. Central air treatment ensures that the dew point temperature is reliably maintained and that no condensation occurs in the floor or on surfaces. This not only ensures that the system functions permanently, but also achieves maximum building physics safety. The combination of surface cooling and dehumidified, temperature-controlled supply air creates a room climate that differs significantly from conventional air conditioning systems: no noticeable cold air flows, no noise pollution from fan coils, no visible technical components in the room.
Architectural freedom and free ceilings
As heating, cooling and air circulation are largely organized via the floor, ceiling surfaces remain free of complex installations. This gives architects maximum design freedom – especially with exposed concrete ceilings, generous room heights or minimalist interiors. For property developers, the system also means a clear technical structure with high integration density and a consistent system concept from a single source.
