Office buildings

A good climate for creative minds

The defining architectural feature of many modern office buildings are large glass façades. In addition, like all new buildings, they are characterized by effective thermal insulation that meets the requirements of the current Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV). Although this results in significantly lower energy consumption for heating, it also increases the need for cooling and additional ventilation of the building. In office buildings in particular, it is important to optimally cover the three requirements of heating, cooling and ventilation so that a pleasant indoor climate is guaranteed all year round – one of the decisive factors for productive and creative work by employees.

Optimal working climate
The optimal working climate – both figuratively and literally – was also one of the guiding principles behind the construction of the administration building at Konrad Knoblauch GmbH. The international shopfitting and interior design specialist based in Markdorf in the Lake Constance district commissioned mmp Architekten, Uhldingen, with the planning of a new office building with an adjoining logistics hall. The entire site comprises an office area of 1,200 square meters, a workshop area of 4,000 square meters and a logistics area of 3,000 square meters. The defining element of the office building is a glass façade extending across all levels – an expression of the company’s philosophy: transparent presentation of its own work and development as well as a close connection between its own activities and the immediate surroundings. Clear, unadulterated building materials such as exposed concrete for walls, ceilings and stairs, smoothed and dyed screed as flooring and floor-to-ceiling glazing underline the purist character of the new company headquarters. Inside, fresh, bright colors create a pleasant working atmosphere.

Innovative air-conditioning technology
An innovative air-conditioning solution ensures an optimum indoor climate. The heating and cooling energy reaches the rooms via a multi-floor construction developed by ClimaLevel GmbH, which combines heating, cooling and ventilation in a single system. The combination of conventional underfloor heating and airflow makes this solution as responsive as it is energy-efficient. In addition, the sophisticated ventilation technology ensures a constantly optimal room climate, which prevents the unpleasant side effects of classic air conditioning systems such as draughts or “cold lakes” on the floor. As the “executive body”, the ClimaLevel Multiboden HKL efficiently and flexibly implements the desired specifications for the indoor climate and guarantees a stable feel-good climate 365 days a year. The climate-controlled floor system also offers immense advantages in terms of “ease of construction”: In construction, the ClimaLevel Multiboden HKL forms a compact unit – instead of three, you only have one component – into which all the components can be integrated. The electrical supply lines can be integrated into the system. This means that installation can take place at a relatively early stage and there are no additional restrictions in the further construction process. Once the screed has been applied, the heating, cooling and ventilation issues are taken care of.

Provensystem
In the meantime, the ClimaLevel Multiboden HKL has proven its optimum functionality in many office and industrial construction projects. In particular, the successful cooperation with the Vollack Group, a specialist in the construction of energy-efficient office buildings and a correspondingly broad overview of the alternatives available on the market, in several projects underlines the efficient reliability of the air conditioning system.
