The ClimaLevel® Multifloor HVAC plays vital role as central transmission system in Solar Decathlon winning concept by Vienna University of Technology team

The biennial Solar Declathon is the most important architectural competition for sustainable design, challenging collegiate teams to design, build and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient and attractive. The US Department of Energy selected 19 teams out of 200 to compete in the Solar Declathon 2013. Team Austria (Vienna University of Technology) was announced the overall winner for the entry "Living Inspired by Sustainable Innovation" (LISI).

The ClimaLevel® Multifloor HVAC, a floor for heating, cooling, and ventilation, plays a vital role in LISI’s building technology concept.

The winning design

LISI is a patio home consisting of three zones which may be enclosed using a flexible facade. Weather permitting, the central living area can be extended by the north and south patios by fully opening the large-scaled glass sliding elements. Big white textile elements provide shading. Designed as a net-positive home, LISI generates more energy than required with a roof-mounted PV array. The supply of cold and hot water for space heating, cooling and for domestic hot water relies on a reversible air-water pump.
